It Started with the RUX Packing System ULTRA
Earlier this year, we launched the RUX Packing System ULTRA, an exclusive members-only release of our RUX Packing Bag 20L, Packing Cube 10L and Packing Pocket 2L built from Challenge TX50 Ultra™. It was our first experiment using composite fabrics that blend ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (Ultra PE) fibers with a recycled PET film.
The result was a lighter, tougher, and more waterproof version of our modular packing kit, proving that advanced materials could push real-world performance without compromising usability or style.
That limited drop has been super well received. It confirmed what we already suspected: our community values gear that goes further, lasts longer, and earns its keep.
Now Introducing the Duffel Box ULTRA
We’re taking that same material ethos into a larger form with the RUX Duffel Box ULTRA, unveiled as a stretch goal in our Kickstarter campaign.
The exterior is built from Challenge ULTRA™ 400x, a 400-denier Ultra PE and polyester weave laminated with a 0.75 mil film. It is 20 percent lighter and four times more abrasion resistant than standard 400d fabrics. With tear strengths exceeding 180 pounds (ASTM D2261) and abrasion testing over 8,800 cycles, it’s designed to take serious abuse.
Inside, the TX50 Ultra™ liner uses a 50d triple-ripstop polyester bonded with a 0.25 mil PET film and Ultra™ CrossPly reinforcement. The material is completely waterproof, ultralight, and virtually tear-proof.
Together, these layers create a shell that is light, rigid, weatherproof, and incredibly strong. It is ideal for the kind of gear hauling, stacking, and travel that RUX was built for.
It’s the same structured, wide-mouth Duffel Box design our community already loves, now made with expedition-grade materials that redefine what “rugged” really means.

Like the RUX Packing System ULTRA, the Duffel Box ULTRA is intentionally limited. Available exclusively to Kickstarter backers for now, and fewer than 200 being made, it’s a collector’s edition built for those who appreciate craftsmanship, performance, and materials that tell a story.
