Small Moments, Big Event: Sea Otter 2026

Posted by Jamie Bond on

Sea Otter always has a way of reminding you why you do what you do.

It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, focusing on product, timelines, and everything that happens behind the scenes. But then an event like Sea Otter comes around, and suddenly all of it becomes real. You are face-to-face with the people who use what you build, the ones who push it, pack it, rely on it, and take it places you might not have imagined.

This year felt especially meaningful for RUX. From the moment things kicked off, there was a steady flow of new faces stopping by. Curious people, people who had heard about us, and people who had never seen anything like the Duffel Box before. Those conversations are what stick. Hearing how people travel, how they organize their gear, what works, and what does not. It is a constant reminder that good design starts with listening.

At the same time, Sea Otter is just as much about reconnecting as it is about meeting new people. Around every corner, there was a familiar face. Old friends from the industry, partners, and people we have crossed paths with over the years. The kind of connections that go beyond business, where conversations pick up right where they left off. Something is grounding about that. It makes a big event feel small in the best way.

One of the highlights this year was spending time at the Velocio booth and sharing a preview of something we have been working on together. The RUX x Velocio WP Tote is built for days when conditions do not cooperate, when gear needs to stay dry no matter what. Seeing it out in the world for the first time, hearing feedback, and watching people immediately understand its purpose made all the work behind it feel worth it. It is launching soon, and we are excited to finally get it into more hands.

It also felt especially fitting to connect around that product with our friend Erik Binggeseer. Erik has ridden over 70,000 miles this year, a number that is hard to fully wrap your head around until you see the wear on his gear and hear the stories behind it. When you are riding that much, every piece of equipment matters. A waterproof tote is not just a convenience; it is something that helps keep the journey going. Being able to support that in some small way is a reminder of why thoughtful gear matters.

In between the conversations, there were the small moments that defined these kinds of weekends. Early mornings setting up, the hum of the crowd building throughout the day, and the quiet exhale when things finally wind down. It is a rhythm that feels both exhausting and energizing at the same time.

Now we are back on the road, packing things up, and heading to the next stop. There is always a bit of a comedown after an event like this, but it is the good kind. The kind that comes with knowing it was worth the effort.

Sea Otter delivered in every way this year. New connections, familiar faces, and a reminder of the community that makes all of this meaningful.

We will definitely be back next year.

Can’t wait.
